Navitaire Adds Airline Recovery Capabilities to Growing Portfolio of Services
Acquisition of Caleb Technologies Assets Includes Decision-Support Capabilities and all Customer Contracts
Minneapolis; March 29, 2004: Navitaire, an Accenture business, has expanded its hosted technology solutions for airlines with the acquisition of key assets of Caleb Technologies Corp., adding Caleb’s operations recovery decision-support and resource planning systems to its service portfolio. Financial terms of the deal, which also includes all of Caleb’s customer contracts, were not disclosed.
Among the key software applications that Navitaire has acquired is the RecoverySuiteTM system, comprising applications that recommend solutions to quickly return aircraft, crew and scheduled passengers to their previous schedules after flight disruptions or cancellations. Navitaire also acquired two other applications from Caleb: Pairing SolverTM, which helps optimize monthly crew work-pattern assignments and CrewResource SolverTM, which helps manage ongoing crew staffing, training and deployment.
Navitaire’s new products enable airlines to create multiple recovery scenarios with the projected costs and impact on aircraft, crew and passengers for each alternative in just a few minutes, rather than the hours previously required to develop alternatives by collecting data manually. As a result, airlines can take a more complete view of the proposed flight changes and make more- cost-effective decisions regarding passenger re-accommodation and rescheduling of aircraft and crew.
As part of this transaction, Navitaire has also hired approximately 25 Caleb employees and assumed all of Caleb’s customer contracts. Several of Caleb’s customers, including American, Continental, Delta and Northwest, as well as two fast-growing low-fare airlines — AirTran and jetBlue — were already Navitaire customers. With the acquisition of Caleb’s customer contracts, Navitaire adds Southwest to its customer list.
The acquisition of Caleb’s assets is in line with Navitaire’s strategy to expand its portfolio of high-value information technology solutions for airlines. Since its origination in 1993, Navitaire has continually broadened its hosted services, which now include reservations, direct distribution, revenue accounting, revenue protection, revenue management and decision support services to airlines worldwide.
Mike Dickoff, Navitaire CEO, said "With our acquisition of these new assets, we’ve significantly increased the value that we can deliver to our customers — from traditional global airlines to newer low-fare carriers."
